Commemorating the 250th Anniversary of American Independence at the Old Korean Legation

An exciting new embassy event with our Korean friends!

Tonight, you are invited to join the diplomats from the Republic of Korea for a truly unique cultural experience like never before. Even more unique than our usual embassy events, we will not only take you on a visit to another “country” but also step back in time as we host you at the Old Korean Legation!

On May 22, 1882, Korea’s Joseon Dynasty made its first diplomatic relations with a Western Country – the United States! In 1889, the Korean Legation was established in the building we will be visiting. As you tour the museum, you will experience the 19th-century setting of Korean diplomacy in Washington, D.C.!

As we celebrate America 250 and the incredibly strong friendship between Korea and the United States, join us for an evening of Korean culture, including:

1) DIPLOMATIC GREETING: Meet and hear from Korean diplomats, who will welcome us to the Legation and extend greetings in recognition of this historic celebration.

2) KOREAN CUISINE: Sample authentic Korean dishes prepared by Korean chefs.

3) TOUR OF THE LEGATION: A unique tour of this historic building, right out of 1889. The first and second floors were restored based on historical research, true to the original form of the late nineteenth century when the Korean Legation was in operation, and the third floor was transformed into an exhibition space intended to inform visitors on the history of Korea-U.S. relations.
